Notes From People Who Sat on the Bench
Collected from emails and follow-up calls. We have included a couple that are not entirely complimentary, because a page of nothing but praise tells a reader nothing.
I brought in a set I was ready to replace. Ruth Ann measured everything, showed me that two of my irons were flying the same distance and my gap wedge was doing nothing at all, and sent me home having spent forty dollars on bending. I have played eleven rounds since and my scoring has not been this steady in years.
The turf strip was the difference for me. Every other place I have been fitted put me on a mat, where every wedge feels fine. On real grass you could see immediately that my 60 was digging. Two degrees more bounce and the club stopped fighting me.
Trevor refused to give me a recommendation after twenty swings because he said the sample was too small. I found that irritating at the time and I understand it now. The numbers moved a lot over the next fifteen shots and the club we settled on was not the one that was leading early.
My son grew four inches over a winter and his clubs were suddenly wrong. Simone re-cut and re-weighted the set he already had for less than the cost of one new junior club. She also told us not to buy him a driver yet, which was not the answer he wanted.
Honest review: the shop is a working bench, not a golf boutique. If you want leather chairs and a coffee machine this is not that. If you want somebody to measure things properly and explain why, it is exactly that. I would have liked somewhere better to sit while I waited.
Came in for a putter and left with the putter I walked in with, bent two degrees flat and cut down an inch and a half. It felt like a scam until I made everything inside eight feet for a month.
Booking was harder than it should be. I called three times before I got a slot that worked, and the online form does not show availability. Once I was in the chair the session itself was excellent and the spec sheet is still in my bag.
I have been playing forty years and nobody ever told me my lie angles were four degrees upright until Gerald put them on the gauge. Forty years of aiming right to compensate. I am not sure whether to be delighted or furious.
On the Booking Complaint
It is fair and we have not fully solved it. Two bays and four people means we cannot run live availability without over-promising, so the form collects your request and somebody calls back. We answer requests in the order they arrive and we return every call within one business day.
